INTRODUCTION TO GGGI

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies. To learn more please visit about GGGI web page. 

PURPOSE

The Global Lead in the Community of Practice for Green Buildings and Industry will be responsible for developing innovative global projects, leveraging  knowledge and expertise on the subject. This role involves ensuring quality assurance of ongoing projects, and exploring finance models based on best practices. The incumbent will also disseminate knowledge through flagship publications, engage in capacity-building activities, conduct assessments, and provide leadership support to enhance GGGI's project portfolio in this area.

Additional responsibilities include offering thematic advice, reviewing Project Identification Notes (PIN), identify innovative technologies for new project developments, leading the development of flagship programs/projects, providing technical guidance, engaging in knowledge sharing and analytical work, supporting resource mobilization, and developing strategic partnerships in alignment with GGGI's Strategy 2030.

 

ENGAGEMENT

During this tenure, the staff will report to the Assistant Director-General (ADG) and the Head of the Investment and Policy Solutions Division (IPSD). S/he will work closely with country teams and member and partner countries, to provide specialist advice, conduct PIN reviews and ensure quality. While leading the development of Green Buildings and Green Industry flagship programs and projects, offer technical guidance, engage in knowledge sharing, and conduct analytical work under a One GGGI approach. 

 

DELIVERY

  • Provide technical guidance within the Programmatic Solution Community of Practice, influencing GGGI's work and synthesizing technical advice to GGGI staff and countries.
  • Lead and advance Global Programs to support cross-cutting or early-stage activities within the Programmatic Solution Community of Practice.
  • Initiate and manage urban green building and industry projects, emphasizing collaboration with country team project managers, and explore GGGI flagship projects.
  • Monitor and advise project teams on implementing these flagship projects, ensuring these are reaching the finish line and completed successfully with the necessary funding.
  • Assist in securing targeted funding for global programs within the community of practice.
  • Lead and contribute to within the Programmatic Solution Community of Practice by participating in reviews and the PIN process.
  • Undertake and lead analytical work, including preparing technical reports, guidelines, and policy briefs.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing across the organization through workshops, webinars, and other educational formats.
  • Promote the visibility of the Programmatic Solution Community of Practice both internally and externally.
  • Tailor GGGI's service offers to meet the needs of member or partner countries.
  • Identify new opportunities and guide GGGI country teams on potential programs by adapting GGGI project cycle procedures to new projects.
  • Support the ADG and Head of IPSD in developing new global flagship programs and projects.

 

REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree) in Environmental Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Urban Management/Policy, Urban Economics, Building Sciences, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Minimum of nine years of professional experience with a focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, urban policy/planning, microgrid technology, or related fields. More specifically, core urban thematic focus for GGGI includes urban energy efficiency, low carbon industries and buildings, certification of green buildings and industries, microgrid energy network, urban waste to energy, energy efficiency business model and finance, or closely related topics.
  • Experience in urban and industrial planning and policy, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and microgrid technology in developing countries including Asia, Africa and/or Latin America.
  • Comprehensive understanding of urban energy challenges in developing context, and GGGI initiatives including as well as current initiatives and innovations, including those resulting from international agreements (e.g. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, The New Urban Agenda and Paris Agreement).
  • Experience in launching initiatives related to urban and industrial energy efficiency including energy efficiency, urban and industrial policy analysis, microgrid technology development and multi-stakeholder engagement.

 

FUNCTIONAL

  • Proven skills to effectively manage stakeholder relationships, ensure team collaboration, and engage senior government and non-government officials in a multicultural environment.
  • Ensure timely and quality-based delivery of required outputs.
  • Extensive professional network in the fields of urban and industrial energy and resilience is an asset.
  • Experience of working at or with multi-lateral development banks and/or development finance institutes is beneficial.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, and strong presentation, and
  • Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of another relevant language is an advantage.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is an X10, international grade level in GGGI's salary scale. For X10 International grade, the base salary starts from USD 93,480. Determination of base salary is subject to candidate's experience, academic background and internal equity. GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental and vision.
