Organizational Setting

The Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE) leads FAO's support to countries in the region in transforming their agrifood systems to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It identifies regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development and ensures the planning and implementation of FAO's strategic response in the region through a multidisciplinary approach. It implements approved programmes and projects, monitors programme implementation, and ensures that they contribute to addressing regional priorities, RNE also advises on the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization's Strategic Framework and Programme of Work and Budget. RNE supports regional policy dialogues, facilitates the emergence of regional partnerships, and supports knowledge exchange, capacity development and resource mobilization for food security, agriculture, and rural development in the region. It develops and maintains relations with region-wide institutions including the Regional Economic Integration Organizations (REIOs). The post is located in the Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE) in Cairo, Egypt.


Reporting Lines

Communication and Content Specialist will report to the Regional Communication Officer.


Technical Focus

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Regional Representative and in close consultation with the Regional Communications Officer, the Communication and Content Specialist will provide support to both communications and reporting teams on a wide range of activities as outlined below\:


Tasks and responsibilities

• Produce compelling and engaging contents (photos, videos, stories, infographics, beneficiary stories, etc.) for use across a variety of channels (e.g., Twitter, RNE website, donor visibility, external publications, and internal newsletter/reports, etc.).
• Proactively generate contents by participating in or leading brainstorms/creative sessions or undertaking field trips, as requested/needed.
• Ad-hoc writing tasks as requested, including for internal newsletters, op-ed, or event speeches.
• Edit in-house existing content to ensure accuracy and brand consistency.
• Produce targeted and engaging copy for on-line campaigns and activities based on identified project/programmes. This will include copywriting in response to sudden-onset emergencies, drawing from pre-approved organizational messaging.
• Coordinate, write and finalize the production of RNE annual business review publication;
• Support other workstreams, as needed.


Liaison with the OCC will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point/coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, appropriate review and clearance processes.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor University degree in communication or another related field
• 5 years of relevant experience in Content Editing and Copywriting
• Working knowledge (level C) of English and Arabic
