Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Job Purpose

Market Intelligence, a CGIAR Initiative, has a significant number of events and initiatives that need the support of a communications specialist. Key activities include the launch of the Global Market Intelligence Platform (GloMIP), hosting of Market Intelligence webinars, and communicating results to a broader audience (such as writing newsletter articles and blogs) to the CGIAR and its network. The Initiative will also end in December and the team will need communication support in bringing the necessary materials together to document its accomplishments. At the moment, the team lacks a suitable individual for the intended task, and reallocating existing staff is impractical, given the ongoing project commitments. Therefore, a Communications Specialist will be hired, to be supervised by the Communication Department to ensure that the outputs are aligned with CGIAR and IRRI’s strategies.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate the execution of a Market Intelligence communication plan
  • Write and edit communication collaterals (e.g., articles, video scripts, press releases, brochures, etc.) for MI that can be used in multiple channels ensuring adherence to IRRI publication and style guidelines
  • Provide strategic and tactical support in the planning and organization of MI-related events and engagements
  • Deliver other communication assignments delegated by the Communications Unit
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Development Communication, Journalism, or related field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience or
  • Master’s degree in Communication, Development Communication, Journalism, or related field with 2 years of relevant work experience
Skills Required

Mandatory

  • Experience in developing communication products for agriculture and the development sector
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, expertise in Science Communication
  • Experience in marketing and the use of social media to promote products and/or events related to agriculture and the development sector
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others
  • Experience in packaging communication collaterals for agriculture and the development sector that are applicable across multiple mediums or channels
  • Experience in client/account management
  • Strong project management skills
  • Knowledge of the communication landscape, particularly for agricultur
